COVID 19 - BHM UPDATE

Wednesday, March 18, 2020

Dear Clients

Below is an update for you from the head of the Border Force.

AUSTRALIA WON'T GO INTO COMPLETE LOCKDOWN

Australian Border Force's top boss has slapped down suggestions the country is preparing to completely lock down insisting returning citizens are "welcome" and cargo would continue.

Commissioner Michael Outram said Australia needed borders to remain, after rumours fuelled by false online reports sent many people into a panic overnight fearing an imminent shut down.

Airfreight.

In reality there is reduced capacity for Airfreight as more flights are cancelled or withdrawn from routes by Airlines as well as Border's being in lockdown in some Countries.

Clients will need to take this into account in regards to delays and costs attributed to the lack of space.

Seafreight.

Seafreight has generally been business as usual however there are delays where a city is in lockdown.

China Update.

Below is an interesting update from one our client's supplier, encouraging signs.

"Good afternoon, XXXXX glad knowing you are all ok, and i believe XXXX to reture work soon healthily. the virus already slowed down in China, situation is becoming better every day. in early Fenruary, there were thousands of new infections every day, and now only around 10-20 new infections in whole china per day, and 90% of the new infections are people coming into China from Other countries. all infections got good care in hospital, 68799 out of all 81116 infections have recovered. In qingdao city, there are only 1 infection still in hospital, and he was come back from Italy.

All industries are recovering in China, i believe we have overcome this epidemic."

 BHM Continuity Plan.

We have issued preventative and proactive measures to staff in order to address the potential disruption to our business if we have any issues regarding the health and welfare of our staff.

For staff who do not have a current connection from home we are arranging laptops so staff can work from home if required.

We are in a very good position if quarantined or a stop work is enacted to continue as business as usual, however we are actively monitoring this evolving situation.

Best regards

Bruce Begley

Managing Director
